During this crucial time, when citizen involvement is so important, we are very glad to have Nora at the helm of the Sarpy Republican Women and look forward to her guidance and leadership! Thank you, Nora, for stepping up and taking that leadership role!

We would like to thank Commissioner Warren for speaking to our group at our last meeting!
Here is a brief summary of what was discussed.

Jim Warren was elected to office in 2011. He spoke about his family,Patty, his wife and their three children. He is very involved in his community and Volunteers with the Gretna Fire Dept. and directs the Mission program at his church. Commissioner Warren addressed the issue of transparency in the government and supports transparency on the County level too. He also stated he would like all the County employees to have the same benefits/health insurance considering elected offices and salaried offices. As it is, some are under different programs and have no co-pay while others do. Commissioner Warren also thinks the Learning Community Law is just wrong and would like to see it go away. Some of the issues on the County level are AG property assessments and they are working on that. They are also looking at redistricting and the impact that will have on districts. The rural population may have a stronger voice now. The board is also working on issues with the 911 call center. Commissioner Warren will have more to report on that at a later time.

As Republican Women we should ALL keep informed!

CASA Volunteers are appointed by Judges to watch over and advocate for abused and neglected children, to make sure they don't get lost in the overburdened legal and social service system. We had a good meeting on March 8th!
Mr. Curtis Rainge was our guest speaker. Mr. Rainge is the Community Service Director for Sarpy County. He works with food pantries in Gretna, Bellevue, Papillion and Springfield. The Sarpy County holiday assistance program served over 300 families last year including almost 100 children. Other programs the office assists with are battered women's shelters, energy assistance, and back to school programs that reach into all the communities. As a tradition, the Sarpy Republican Women donate school supplies each year to children in need. Mr. Rainge will get a list to us of needed supplies from the schools.

Congratulations to the two young ladies who received the Sarpy Republican Women's Scholarships on June 8th!
They are Kaitlin Johnson of Bryan High School and Ann E. Den Hartog of Bellevue West High School.

A Big Success!

Our Candidate Forum was a big success on April 13th! We had close to 100 people in attendance and the Millard Social Hall had some excellent food for us to enjoy. The SRW wants to thank all the candidates for thier participation and, of course, many thanks to all the members of the Sarpy GOP for thier support! And, most of all, thanks to all the members of the SRW for putting forth all the effort to pull it off. We have so many dedicated women who know how to put on a great event!

June 9th was our annual Scholarship Banquet at Americana Bistro in Bellevue. Our two Scholarship winners were Jessica Blunk and Kelsey Knowlton. Congratulations ladies and good luck as you both start college. We had a very good turnout for the Banquet and a big thanks to our women who worked so hard to plan and put it together. Without all of you it wouldn’t have happened.
June 23rd was our annual SRW picnic. It was very hot but the house was nice and cool. The food was great and the company was even better!
We are still selling tickets for our half a side of beef fundraiser. It is our biggest fundraiser every two years. The tickets are $5 each. If anyone would like tickets, please call 293-2388. Who knows? Maybe you'll win! The drawing will be done at the Sarpy County Fair, which is July 29th-August 2nd.
The Sarpy County GOP will have a booth at the fair also! Please stop by and grab some valuable information about upcoming elections.

2009 Scholarship Essay Contest Banquet

On June 9th we will be having our 2009 Scholarship Banquet at Americana Bistro in Bellevue.
We will award two scholarships to young ladies from area high schools. This year we had 11 young women participate in the contest!
We award a $300 scholarship based on essays written by the participants. This years question was What do you feel Women's roles are in American Politics today? We had some very good essays.
The other scholarship is a $200 scholarship and is awarded based on community involvement and participation in extra curricular activities.
We are so happy that we can keep this tradition going each year.
We would welcome anyone to join us at the banquet!
This year Senator Abbie Cornett will be our guest speaker.

It was a Great May Meeting!

Greetings!
Thank you to all our members and guests for attending our meeting on May 12th.
It was a great meeting.
Mr. Glenn Freeman of the Freedoms Foundation of Valley Forge was a great speaker.
The Freedoms Foundation is a national, non-profit, non-partisan, educational organization. It was established to honor patriotism and good citizenship.
Mr. Freeman commented that we should teach students where we came from and the only way to preserve our American heritage is to teach children to love America! He also stressed we should adhere to the Constitution of the United States. 55 Men formed this country.
They saw a problem and solved it through the Declaration of Independence.
Now, the federal government is just over 545 people. You ask “why does it seem so big?” All the other people work for the 545 people!
As a vigilant people, what we must do is to make our representatives adhere to the constitution. We, as a country have to follow the constitution. Some elected officials say “It’s more complicated than that.” Mr. Freeman said, “If it’s that hard to explain why you voted the way you did then maybe you should give it up.” His point is that we should make them explain their reasoning.
Ladies, it is so important that we let our representatives know we’re watching them and we will hold them accountable.

A Very Busy Summer!

Well Ladies,

We've had the Forum, which was a big success. We awarded a Scholarship winner and had our Banquet.
The County Republican Convention has come and gone.
Then the Republican Women helped with the Sarpy Republican Booth at the Sarpy County Fair, which is always fun.

And this weekend, August 9th at 5pm is the BBQ Picnic for the Sarpy County Republicans at the Sarpy County Fairgrounds. The guest speaker is Congressman Jeff Fortenberry. This is a great time to meet other Republicans and get involved. Tickets are $15 for a single and $35 for a family.

School Supplies!

Sarpy Republican Women are involved in the "No Child Left Behind" program.
Each year school supplies are collected from our members and then delivered to a Native American School in Nebraska or the surrounding area.
